The Darkness Known as Hentai

So, there I was, looking for more material, pictures, clips, watching other AMV's for inspiration (hopefully this year's AMV will actually get past the Overflow category). And as always, I am interested in followign links, you never know if you might find something awesome. I was looking for "Big O" related stuff, I clicked on an innocent-looking link, it was titled, "Misc. Big O - Dororthy". So I shrugged and clicked the link and saw a flash movie of a partially naked Dorothy on top of a piano doing a robotic strip-tease with a salivating Roger Smith in the background.

I wound up in a very, not-so-good place where hentai ruled supreme. Tentacles. Schoolgirls. Interesting coupling of anime characters(straight, yuri and yaoi). Reverese genderization (like, what if Kagome was a boy and Inyuyasha was a girl, naked and having sex). And introduction to a lot of other unsavory concepts like...and I'll stop the descriptions at this...futanari. Ew.

No. You cannot have the link.

Ok, hentai is not exactly new. As long as manga has been around (a few hundred years) there has been hentai. A perversion of asian (mostly Japanese) art, and later, comics and anime. The word "hentai" has a bad rep in Japan. It basically means sexual perversion...and is normally NOT associated with porn. The connotation is usually reserved for the alteration of anime/manga/art that younger people normally enjoy...labeling those who peruse such items as weird and demented. To us, it simply means that someone has decided to draw or animate their favorite female (or male) character in a sexual situation completely outside the norm. Which kind of makes sense...seeing a rendering of Rei from Neo-Evangelion with...that...thing...and with Shinji...in a certain...contraption...is anything but normal.

Now, you may be asking, "Why did you keep looking if you don't like it?" The answer is quite simple. It's like a car wreck. You just. Have. To. Look. And quite often against your better judgement. Now, everytime I see Rei when watching my DVD, I am going to have to push that horrific image out of mind because as one comedian said, "There are some things you cannot un-know."

SIDE NOTES:

Otakon has announced the Sunday, Japanese Act: http://www.otakon.com/ !

Cultural insensitive remark. New Hampshire State Rep. Nick Levasseur stated recently (and later apologized for it) that, "Anime is a prime example of why two nukes just wasn't enough." You may not be a fan, but wishing for a greater nuclear holocaust is a bit much.

A pretty nice AMV with a cool song, check it out! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B084zv59WwA&playnext_from=TL&videos=MRS31KzL_Zw&playnext=1
